A deeper understanding starts with your pupils
Independent research that reveals what it really feels like to be a pupil at your school — and provides credible evidence of the lived experience behind the prospectus.

How it works

1. Pupil Survey
A short, independent survey exploring seven measures of pupil experience.

2. Analysis
Responses are analysed to identify patterns and differences in pupil experience, with results compared against the BTP benchmark.

3. School Visit
The findings shape the visit, where BTP explores what sits behind the results.
Beyond the usual measures
Some of the most important things about a school are also the hardest to see.
Results, opportunities and facilities tell part of the story.
Beyond the Prospectus looks at another: what it actually feels like to be a pupil there.
Through independent research, BTP explores how pupils experience school life, how that compares with other schools, and what sits behind the findings.

Our research focuses on seven aspects of the pupil experience.
An independent perspective
Many schools already listen closely to their pupils. BTP adds independence, context and investigation.
Pupils respond to someone outside the school, their findings are analysed independently, and the school visit explores what sits behind the results.
An independent lens on the pupil experience.
What your school receives
A full, detailed and confidential report bringing together the survey results, analysis across the seven measures, differences between groups of pupils and findings from the school visit.
It shows what appears particularly strong, where pupil experiences differ and what may merit further attention.
The BTP benchmark
Every participating school answers the same core questions, creating a consistent, anonymised benchmark across the seven measures.
This means schools can see not only what their pupils are saying, but how their experience compares with pupils elsewhere.
There is no overall score and no league table. The benchmark gives the results context; it doesn't deliver a verdict.
Participation and publication
Participation is confidential. A public BTP profile is only created if the school chooses to publish.
If it does not, its individual findings remain private, while anonymised data still contributes to the wider benchmark.
If a school chooses to publish, the profile reflects the evidence as a whole — the strengths, the nuances and anything prospective parents reasonably need to understand.
A profile, not a verdict.
